The Grand Egyptian Museum Opens
After several delays, the Grand Egyptian Museum will have a soft opening of its first 12 main galleries today, October 16, 2024.
The Museum – also known as the Giza Museum – began construction back in 2012, and on final completion, will host over 100,000 artifacts from ancient Egyptian civilization.
With 81,000 square metres of floor space, it will be the world’s largest archaeological museum, which will host permanent exhibition galleries, temporary exhibitions, special exhibitions, a children’s museum, and will have virtual and large format screens.
To celebrate the opening, the world-renowned Egyptologist D. Zahi Hawass, will be giving a series of exclusive lectures, followed by a book signing and dinner (at the museum).
