Family Adventures Group has become the first indoor leisure chain in the UK to install lifesaving anaphylactic auto-injectors across all three of its indoor play centres. The equipment is now in place at its Ocean Adventures indoor play centre in Cheddar, Space Adventures in Taunton and Little Town Adventures in Weston-super-Mare.

The initiative, developed in partnership with Kitt Medical, is part of the Somerset-based company’s commitment to enhancing safety measures for guests and staff. The auto-injectors, often described as the allergy equivalent of a defibrillator, provide an immediate and critical response in the event of an anaphylactic reaction.

Severe allergic reactions can be life-threatening, and swift administration of adrenaline is crucial.

By introducing this equipment, Family Adventures Group is setting a new standard for emergency first aid in the leisure industry.

Laura Filer, co-founder of Family Adventures Group, emphasised the significance of this development: “We know allergies cause a significant number of deaths in the UK, and we want to ensure we have invested in every possible measure to prioritise the safety of our guests and team members.

“These kits will sit alongside our defibrillators and other first aid equipment, ensuring that we are prepared to respond swiftly in critical situations,” she added.

The rollout follows more than two years of planning and collaboration with Kitt Medical to bring auto-injectors into their leisure venues. The Group hopes to continue expanding the initiative and working with industry partners to encourage widespread adoption of anaphylaxis kits across similar venues.

They are also now working with Kitt Medical with a view to introduce them into their day nurseries soon.

In addition to installing this vital equipment, Family Adventures Group has invested heavily in advanced paediatric first aid training. The company’s in-house first aid trainer ensures that all employees are equipped with the skills needed to respond effectively in emergency situations. The initiative has already gained significant traction on social media, sparking discussions on the importance of allergy preparedness in public venues.

While the company hopes the kits will never need to be used, it remains steadfast in its commitment to guest and staff safety. The award-winning Family Adventures Group was founded in 2019 by Laura and Tom after their own, often negative, experiences of visiting soft play centres with their young family.

The couple realised there was a significant lack of high quality, fun, educational, clean indoor play venues which could be enjoyed by both children and adults alike.
