Get ready for a dino-mite adventure in Weymouth this February half-term with the launch of the brand-new, permanent Weymouth Fossil Trail! This exciting and educational experience brings the town’s Jurassic heritage to life, offering families, school groups, and fossil fans of all ages the chance to step back in time and explore prehistoric wonders right in the heart of Weymouth.
Launching on Saturday 15th February, this incredible trail features nine unique fossil installations, each revealing a different piece of Dorset’s ancient history. As you journey through the town, simply scan the QR codes at each stop to uncover fascinating facts about the Jurassic past. Best of all, it’s completely free—making it a must-do activity for families looking for fun things to do this half-term.
An Interactive Experience for All Ages
Created by Deadwalk Designs, the trail showcases a range of prehistoric treasures, from ammonites to the mighty creatures that once roamed the Jurassic Coast. Weymouth’s vibrant town centre provides the perfect backdrop for this engaging experience, encouraging visitors to hunt for fossils, learn amazing dinosaur facts, and share their discoveries using #WeymouthFossilTrail.
Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth (BID), says: “We’re thrilled to bring this incredible trail to Weymouth. Our town’s connection to the Jurassic Coast is something truly special, and this project allows families to experience that history in an interactive and exciting way. After months of planning, it’s amazing to see it come to life, and we can’t wait to welcome visitors to this unique attraction!”
To make launch day even more spectacular, Weymouth will host the Weymouth Dinosaur Run on the beach, with animatronic dinosaurs roaming the town for a truly ROAR-some experience!
