“Room on the Broom” Musical: A Magical Family Treat Touring the UK from October 2024 to April 2025

Fans of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved children’s book Room on the Broom are in for a treat! Tall Stories, the acclaimed theatre company known for its imaginative family shows, is bringing its Olivier Award-nominated musical adaptation of the story to life across the UK. This fun-filled production kicks off a major UK tour at Z-Arts in Manchester on 22 October 2024, running until 26 April 2025 at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry.

A West End Christmas at the Lyric Theatre

In addition to its UK tour, Room on the Broom will be flying into London’s West End for a special Christmas run at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue from 22 November 2024 to 5 January 2025. Meet the Cast

Taking on the iconic characters from Donaldson and Scheffler’s magical world are:

  • Amy Harris as the Witch
  • Joe Lindley as Bird & Dragon
  • Dan Armstrong as Dog & Frog

  • Ed Theakston as Understudy

A Magical Adventure for All Ages

The musical follows the Witch and her cat as they set off on their broomstick, picking up a friendly dog, a green bird, and a frantic frog along the way. But as the broomstick cracks under the weight of its passengers, a hungry dragon appears. Will there be room on the broom for everyone?

Packed with enchanting puppetry, sing-along songs, and hilarious moments, this musical adaptation promises to be a delightful winter treat for families with children aged 3 and up. It’s an ideal introduction to theatre for young children and a heartwarming experience for audiences of all ages.

A Tall Stories Production

Tall Stories has gained international recognition for its joyful and creative adaptations of Donaldson and Scheffler’s books. Their previous hits include The Gruffalo, The Snail and the Whale, and the Olivier Award-nominated The Smeds and The Smoos.

Speaking about the tour, Toby Mitchell, co-founder and artistic director of Tall Stories, said:

“We first brought ‘Room on the Broom’ to the stage in 2008, and it’s toured nationally and internationally ever since. We’re thrilled to be sharing this magical show with UK audiences once again – full of spells, catchy songs, and laughter!”

The show has previously toured internationally to places such as Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Dubai, and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Family Entertainment in 2013. A soundtrack of songs from the show is available for purchase at Tall Stories’ website.

Creative Team Behind the Magic

The Room on the Broom production is directed by Olivia Jacobs, with design by Morgan Large, puppets by Yvonne Stone, lighting by James Whiteside, choreography by Morag Cross, and music composed by Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw.
