Henry VIII’s Joust: 12 – 13 July and 19 – 20 July 2025

The roar of hooves and the clash of lances return to Hampton Court Palace this summer as Henry VIII’s Joust gallops back for two unmissable weekends of family-friendly Tudor spectacle.

From 12-13 and 19-20 July, Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that cares for Hampton Court Palace, will transport visitors back to 1514.  These were the glory days of royal tournaments, and visitors will encounter fearless knights on horseback, competing in a dramatic display of skill, courage, and chivalry reminiscent of the famous Tudor sport. Set against the backdrop of the East Front Gardens, spectators of all ages are encouraged to pick their champion, cheer them to glory – or jeer their rivals – and see who will be crowned the victor. Keep watch, as the King and his royal party will be in attendance, recreating the spirit and showmanship of the era.

Witness expert riders take to the field in a series of exciting jousts, thrilling stunts, and breathtaking falconry displays led by specialist handlers. Demonstrations will showcase the importance of these majestic birds in Tudor life as fascinating insights will be shared throughout the day. The royal tournament ground will also feature live commentary, scoreboard, and lively music to bring the action to life. The stage is set for the entire family to be captivated!

The excitement doesn’t end at the jousting arena as visitors can refuel at the Tiltyard Café and enjoy tasty treats from ringside food and drink trucks. Tickets will include full Palace access for a day of discovery, navigating the twists of the maze, stepping into the grandeur of the Great Hall, or imaginations running wild in the Magic Garden adventure playground.

All performances are open-air and seated on grass, so dressing appropriately for the weather is recommended. To prevent view obstruction, umbrellas and folding chairs are not permitted.

With heraldic traditions, thrilling contests and elements of light-hearted rivalry, Henry VIII’s Joust promises all the pomp and pageantry of courtly entertainment across two-actioned packed weekends.
