This year marks the 100th anniversary of Britain’s first Grand Prix, held at Brooklands in Weybridge back in 1926. To mark the milestone, Brooklands Museum has launched a summer of centenary events built around the birthplace of British motorsport, and it is shaping up to be a strong pick for any car mad kid this summer. A new exhibition has just opened inside the historic Jackson Shed, tracing a century of racing history from that very first race through to today’s Formula 1 cars, alongside a packed programme of family activities running right through the school holidays, including a brand new interactive science show and a year long scavenger hunt for younger visitors to enjoy.
A New Grand Prix Exhibition
The new exhibition, Britain’s Grand Prix Story, sits inside the Jackson Shed, a genuine 1930s racing workshop. It brings the story of the 1926 race to life and traces a century of engineering ambition and sporting innovation, with original objects on display from across the decades.
Get Set Go! Science Show
Running on weekdays from 27 July to 28 August, this brand-new interactive science show is part of the museum’s Centenary Celebration Family Fun programme. It sits alongside a year-long scavenger hunt for younger visitors to enjoy throughout the school holidays.
Summer of Speed
The wider Summer of Speed programme brings a season of Grand Prix-themed celebration, adventure, and family experiences to the site right through the holidays, making it easy to combine a visit to the exhibition with a full day out.
