Hockerhill in Brewood, Staffordshire, is launching a programme of free nature-inspired activities for pre-schoolers this September, with mud painting, potion making and craft sessions on offer throughout the month.
The sessions run from 10am to 11am on selected dates and are free with standard admission, giving little ones the chance to get creative and hands-on without parents having to worry about the cleanup. Once the session ends, families can spend the rest of the day exploring the adventure playbarn.
September Programme
The activities include mud kitchen fun and nature-inspired star wands on Tuesday 15 September, potion making and stick hedgehogs on Thursday 17 September, and a butterfly craft on Tuesday 22 September. The final two sessions bring mud painting and a sun catcher on Thursday 24 September, followed by potion making and crown making on Tuesday 29 September.
Hockerhill was created by Tessa and Charlie Giffard and combines indoor and outdoor adventure play with spaces designed for exploring, imagining and learning through play, while parents can relax with a coffee or lunch in the on-site cafe.
Tessa Giffard said the new nature-themed events give young visitors the chance to enjoy messy play inspired by the outdoors, which she believes is a great way to spark imagination and the senses at a young age.
Little Acorns and Toddler Play Areas
Hockerhill also has a dedicated ‘Little Acorns’ space for babies and pre-schoolers, featuring a blackboard, small slide, magic mirrors and climbing equipment. Toddlers have their own outdoor play area too, complete with a sandpit, toys, a musical instrument and a nearby zip wire.
Admission starts from £7.50 for adults, £8.50 for children aged 3 to 18 and £5 for toddlers, with under-ones entering free. Pre-booking is recommended. Hockerhill’s ‘adults go free’ Mondays also return from 7 September.
Children should be dressed for messy play and bring a change of clothes.
