Primary schools marking Black History Month this October can now download The Power of Positive Voices, a brand-new free assembly resource from Premier League Primary Stars that brings the stories of Premier League players into the classroom.
The assembly is the latest addition to the No Room for Racism: Black Voices pack. It was created as part of the Premier League’s No Room for Racism initiative, which encourages people to take action against discrimination and promotes greater diversity in football.
Premier League players help pupils explore belonging and resilience
The resource uses football’s biggest role models to help pupils explore diversity, belonging, resilience and self-confidence. Players featured include:
- Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
- Ethan Ampadu (Leeds United)
- Alex Iwobi (Fulham)
- Lauren James (Chelsea Women)
Many more players also appear. Because pupils hear directly from footballers they recognise and admire, the assembly gives teachers an easy, engaging way to start conversations about difficult topics.
Premier League Primary Stars resources have a strong track record here. According to the programme, 9 out of 10 teachers report a positive impact on pupils’ understanding of diversity and inclusion after using them, and over 83,000 teachers across England and Wales are already registered.
A Diversity Lead from a school in London said: “…the fact that the resources are engaging, make the subject relatable and are easy to use enables us as teachers to facilitate discussions on important topics…”
Teachers can register for free and download The Power of Positive Voices from the Premier League Primary Stars website.
Free Anti-Bullying Week resources for primary schools
Premier League Primary Stars also has five free resources ready for Anti-Bullying Week, which runs from 16 to 20 November. New resources inspired by this year’s theme, Break the Silence, are coming soon.
Designed for Key Stage 2 pupils (ages 7 to 11), the resources link to PSHE in England and Health and Well-being in Wales. Each comes with a ready-to-use teacher presentation and activities, so they slot easily into lessons or assemblies. Several were developed with the Anti-Bullying Alliance, which coordinates Anti-Bullying Week.
Make a Noise About Bullying
Pupils explore the difference between banter and bullying, and learn how to speak up so banter never becomes bullying. Activities include designing their own anti-bullying superhero and making a pledge to help stop bullying in their school.
Power for Good
Created with the Anti-Bullying Alliance, this resource helps pupils understand what bullying is, how it can make people feel and why everyone has a role in stopping it. Scenario-based worksheets look at the different roles people play and how bystanders can use their “Power for Good”.
Choose Respect
Also developed with the Anti-Bullying Alliance, Choose Respect explores self-respect, why mutual respect matters and how to show respect in different situations, including disagreements. Football-themed scenarios, role-play cards and respect pledges bring the learning to life.
Kicking Around Kindness
This pack encourages pupils to think about how their behaviour affects others, covering what bullying is, how to report it and the impact of words. It pairs a classroom presentation with a physical activity session, which can be used together as a full PSHE lesson or separately.
Reaching Out
Created in support of the Anti-Bullying Alliance, Reaching Out helps pupils understand the different forms bullying can take and find ways to show kindness. Activities include a starter task on what bullying is and creating a class kindness jar.
Teachers can explore all the Anti-Bullying Week resources for free on the Premier League Primary Stars website.
