Music, theatre, storytelling, science and plenty of family fun are on the agenda this autumn at Trinity Theatre.
Families looking for something a little different to do together this autumn can enjoy a packed programme of shows and activities at Trinity Theatre, Tunbridge Wells, with opportunities to sing, dance, draw, explore, discover and get involved.
The autumn programme gets underway on Friday 18 September with Story Time, a weekly Friday morning treat running throughout term time until Friday 4 December.
Story Time
Taking place at 9.30am every Friday, Story Time invites little ones and their grown-ups into a world of stories, songs, props and plenty of audience participation.
The fully interactive sessions are designed to bring stories to life and are suitable for children from around six months through to school age. It’s a gentle and fun way to introduce younger children to the theatre while giving grown-ups the chance to join in too.
Baby Broadway
Next up is Baby Broadway on Thursday 24 September at 11am, an interactive family concert featuring West End singers and a selection of much-loved musical theatre songs.
Families can sing and dance along to favourites from The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and Frozen, alongside plenty of other familiar tunes.
Little ones can join in with bubbles, puppets, actions and dance moves, while grown-ups are encouraged to join the singalong. It’s a chance for the whole family to enjoy the magic of musical theatre together.
Once Upon a Drawalong with Nick Sharratt
During the October half-term, families can get creative with much-loved children’s author and illustrator Nick Sharratt, who brings Once Upon a Drawalong to Trinity Theatre on Wednesday 28 October at 2pm.
Nick will combine stories, games, illustrations and audience participation as he shares some of his favourite books, introduces brand-new stories and shows children how to draw their own characters.
With around 300 books to his name, Nick is the illustrator behind much-loved titles including You Choose, Shark in the Park and the Pants series. He has also worked with authors including Julia Donaldson, Michael Rosen and Kes Gray and has illustrated many of Dame Jacqueline Wilson’s popular novels.
Nick has also been awarded a Gold Blue Peter Badge.
A Tale of Us
For families with babies, A Tale of Us from Bristol-based Tiny & Tall Productions offers a very different theatre experience.
There are performances at 10.30am and 1pm on Thursday 29 October, with the show created especially for parents and babies aged 0–18 months.
Designed as a gentle introduction to live theatre, A Tale of Us combines thoughtful storytelling with sensory play in a relaxed environment where babies are free to make noise, wriggle, move around and follow their curiosity.
The story follows Ivy and her little one through their first year together, exploring the love, loneliness, challenges and everyday triumphs that come with becoming a parent.
The Brain Bending Science Illusion Show
If your children love discovering how things work, The Brain Bending Science Illusion Show could be just the ticket.
Taking place on Saturday 7 November at 2pm, the show combines science, psychology, illusion and comedy in an entertaining journey into the mysteries of the human brain.
The Magical Mr West returns following the success of Adventures in Science, this time accompanied by his corvid companion, Crowbert.
Families can expect cognitive conundrums, optical illusions, baffling tricks and mind-bending mysteries, with some of the illusions being simple enough for children to try at home.
The show also explores how our minds can be tricked, asking questions such as whether we can really trust our eyes and whether we can always believe what our brains are telling us.
And there’s another important question to answer: could Crowbert turn his newfound knowledge of deception into a career in advertising?
