It may still be August, but Christmas 2026 is already taking shape, with Santa sightings, sparkling light trails, festive theatre and magical family experiences beginning to appear across the UK.
From meeting Father Christmas and sending letters to the North Pole to walking through illuminated gardens and boarding THE POLAR EXPRESS™, there are plenty of reasons for families to start planning their festive season early.
Here are some of the Christmas 2026 events already announced.
Santa Spotted at Westwood Cross
Father Christmas and his Head Elf, Joey, have already been spotted enjoying a shopping trip at Westwood Cross in Thanet, where preparations are well underway for the return of Santa’s Grotto.
The family-friendly experience returns from Friday 27 November until Christmas Eve, giving children the chance to meet Santa, share their Christmas wishes and discover whether they have made his naughty or nice list.
Each child will receive a certificate and an age-appropriate gift, while festive photo gifts will also be available to purchase.
Early Bird tickets start from £6.99 for children, including a gift, and are available until Friday 11 December, excluding weekends. Standard child tickets cost £8.50, while accompanying adults can attend free with a fully paid child ticket. Carers also go free.
The Grotto will be located outside Primark, close to Little Bears’ Pirate Cove play area.

Luminate Light Trails Return
Luminate’s magical light trails return for their eighth year, with spectacular installations, music, interactive experiences and seasonal storytelling.
The family-run event is also offering dog-friendly nights and accessible evenings, while visitors can enjoy festive food and drink, hot chocolate, marshmallows and other winter treats along the way.
Each trail is approximately one mile long and takes around 60–90 minutes to complete.

Christmas at Coughton Court
Christmas arrives at Coughton Court in Warwickshire from Wednesday 25 November, when the historic Tudor house will be decorated with festive displays inspired by the Throckmorton family’s Christmas traditions.
The grounds and gardens will also be illuminated, while families can meet Father Christmas on selected dates.
There will also be an Evening with Santa on 27 November, 3 December and 9 December, including a Santa meet and greet, local choir, hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies.
Other festive highlights include the Christmas Fete on 5 and 6 December, the traditional Festive Wassail on 12 December and a family-friendly pantomime on 23 December.
General pre-booked admission during December weekends costs £12.50 for adults and £5 for children, while meeting Father Christmas costs £25 per child, including a gift.

Christmas Theatre: Cinderella at Lyric Hammersmith
Families looking for a festive theatre treat can head to the Lyric Hammersmith, where Cinderella runs from 14 November to 3 January.
Written by Joel Horwood and directed by Robin Belfield, the production promises songs, comedy and a magical take on the classic fairy tale.
Santa’s First Christmas at Unicorn Theatre
The Unicorn Theatre presents Santa’s First Christmas at the Weston Theatre from 14 November to 3 January.
Based on Mac Barnett’s book, the story follows Santa as his elves decide to give him a Christmas celebration of his own.
The production is recommended for children aged 4+.
The Nutcracker at Birmingham Hippodrome
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without The Nutcracker, and Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to Birmingham Hippodrome from 20 November to 12 December.
Families can follow Clara on her magical Christmas Eve adventure, from the Nutcracker Doll and the battle with the Mouse King to the enchanting Kingdom of Sweets.
Huddle at Unicorn Theatre
For younger children, Huddle comes to the Unicorn Theatre’s Clore Theatre from 27 November to 3 January.
This playful production follows Mr Penguin as he discovers what it means to become a parent when his special delivery turns out to be an egg.
Recommended for ages 1–4, it combines puppetry, projection and sound.
Christmas at Battersea Arts Centre
Battersea Arts Centre is getting a festive makeover this Christmas with a programme designed for families with children of all ages.
Dear Santa runs from 28 November to 24 December, bringing Rod Campbell’s much-loved children’s story to the stage for children aged two and over.
Families can also enjoy Festive Soft Play from 1–24 December, designed for children aged 0–5, while Santa’s Grotto runs from 4–24 December.
There’s a Bear on My Chair
Ross Collins’ much-loved story There’s a Bear on My Chair returns to the Southbank Centre from 11 December to 3 January.
The visually enchanting production uses puppetry to bring Bear and Mouse to life and promises a heart-warming and funny festive experience for families.
Christmas at Kew
One of London’s most spectacular festive traditions returns as Christmas at Kew transforms Kew Gardens after dark from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.
The three-kilometre trail will feature new artistic commissions alongside returning favourites, with installations combining light, music and the natural beauty of Kew’s landscape.
New works include Infinite Choir by Squidsoup, Drift by Studio Vertigo, a floral installation by TILT and a new animated willow tree inspired by Kew’s extensive tree collection.
Returning favourites include the Christmas Cathedral, Fire Garden, Pealight Tree and the Temperate House light show.
There will also be adult-only evenings on 3 and 9 December, offering visitors aged 18 and over a different way to enjoy the festive trail.
Quiet Access sessions will be available on selected dates for visitors with hidden and visual disabilities.
Every ticket purchased supports the work of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, including science, conservation, horticulture and education.
THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride Returns to London
Families can once again climb aboard THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride at London Euston this Christmas.
The experience returns on selected dates from 5–23 December 2026, following another successful season.
Passengers can wear their pyjamas, board the steam train and enjoy an immersive one-hour journey inspired by the much-loved story and 2004 film.
There will be golden tickets, hot chocolate and cookies, Christmas songs, appearances from the Hobo, and a visit from Santa, who presents every passenger with a silver sleigh bell.
Tickets start from £69, depending on the date and time.

Peter Pan on Ice
Families can fly off to Neverland this Christmas when Peter Pan on Ice arrives at the Bath Forum from 23 December 2026 to 3 January 2027.
The production combines figure skating, aerial performance and theatrical storytelling, transforming the stage into a real ice rink.
Dancing on Ice professional and 2025 champion Molly Lanaghan takes on the role of Tinker Bell, alongside Olympic German figure skating champion Joti Polizoakis.
With pirates, Lost Boys, Captain Hook and the ever-present threat of the crocodile, it promises plenty of action for families.

Winter Palace: The Christmas Beast Ball at Hampton Court Palace
A brand-new festive experience arrives at Hampton Court Palace from 28 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.
Winter Palace: The Christmas Beast Ball will transform the historic palace into a magical world filled with mythical creatures, storytelling, performances and festive decorations.
Visitors will be invited into the Christmas Beast Ball, where dragons, mice and other fantastical creatures gather for a spectacular celebration.
The palace rooms will be transformed with jewel-coloured decorations, Christmas trees, garlands and playful installations.
Outside, the Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink returns from 20 November to 3 January, while the annual Festive Fayre takes place from 4–6 and 11–13 December.
