Gloworm Festival Shares the Secret Behind 10 Years of Family Fun Ahead of Biggest Celebration Yet

Gloworm Festival, Thoresby Park, Nottinghamshire | 7–9 August 2026

In an age where screens compete for children’s attention and family festivals face increasing challenges, one event believes it has discovered the ingredients that keep families coming back year after year.

As Gloworm Festival prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary this summer, organisers have revealed the secret behind its success – creating a place where families can spend quality time together, make memories and enjoy experiences that simply can’t be replicated online.

What began as a small family event attracting around 3,500 visitors in 2016 has grown into one of the UK’s most popular family festivals. Returning to Thoresby Park from 7–9 August, Gloworm promises its biggest celebration yet, packed with entertainment, activities and opportunities for families to reconnect.

While the festival has become known for its larger-than-life moments – from giant Playmobil Raves and camping adventures to surprise appearances from TV favourites – organisers say the real magic lies in the shared experiences between parents and children.

Festival Director Richard Walpole said: “Celebrating 10 years of Gloworm is incredibly special. What started as just an idea over a decade ago has grown into something truly magical, bringing thousands of families together each year to make unforgettable memories.

“We’re so proud of how far Gloworm has come and can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with everyone this summer.”

Over the years, Gloworm has built a reputation for creating memorable family moments. The hugely popular Playmobil Rave with DJ Sparky has become a festival institution, while previous highlights have included Mr Blobby’s unexpected rendition of Wonderwall, Stavros Flatley getting dads involved in giant dance routines and Black Lace legend Dene Michael leading hundreds of families in a site-wide Hokey Cokey.

But it’s not all about the big stage moments. Many returning visitors say some of their favourite memories come from camping under the stars, enjoying bedtime stories together and meeting beloved characters throughout the weekend.

The festival has evolved significantly during the last decade, embracing themes ranging from superheroes and pirates to space and underwater adventures. Camping was introduced in 2017 before the festival relocated to Thoresby Park the following year to accommodate growing demand.

Even during the pandemic, Gloworm found ways to keep families connected through its virtual BookWorm Festival, featuring online readings from children’s authors including Elmer creator David McKee.

What’s New for 2026?

For its landmark anniversary year, Gloworm is introducing a brand-new Adventure Zone packed with activities designed to burn off energy and encourage outdoor play.

Parents can expect plenty of nostalgic fun alongside entertainment for younger visitors.

Friday night’s exclusive camper event will feature S Club star Jo O’Meara alongside Kevin & Perry, while the weekend line-up also includes:

Returning favourite Maddie Moate said: “It’s been so special to watch the festival grow over the years, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming back again for the 10th Gloworm Festival.

“I’m so glad to have been part of such a wonderful event. There’s something truly magical about Gloworm, from the atmosphere to the amazing families and team behind it. I can’t wait to celebrate this incredible milestone together.”

Camping Makes It a Full Weekend Adventure

For many families, camping has become an essential part of the Gloworm experience.

Campers enjoy exclusive Friday-night entertainment and early access to the festival site, helping to extend the fun beyond the main arena. Organisers say Park & Pitch spaces are running low and glamping options are nearly sold out, although traditional camping pitches remain available.

Day tickets for Saturday and Sunday are also available for families who prefer to visit for a single day.

All entertainment and activities are included within the ticket price, with family passes, single-parent tickets, VIP upgrades and camping options available.
