Giving Tree returns to Lewisham Shopping Centre
Quote from Fergus McCarthy on November 25, 2024, 4:56 pmLewisham Shopping Centre brings back its beloved Giving Tree this Christmas, supporting children and young people in need. This heartfelt initiative, running until 2nd January, encourages shoppers to share the festive spirit by donating gifts to local families through two vital community organisations.
Giving Tree Supporting the Lewisham community
The Giving Tree partners with the Bank of Things and The Salvation Army. Bank of Things tackles poverty and resource shortages for young people, while The Salvation Army offers vital support to those experiencing homelessness. Together, they ensure thoughtful gifts reach those who need them most.
Located in Central Square, the Tree invites visitors to choose a tag detailing a child’s age and gift preferences. Shoppers can then explore Lewisham’s stores to select the perfect present, such as books, toys, or craft kits.
Paul Redden, Centre Director at Lewisham Shopping Centre, says:
“The festive season is about community, togetherness, and spreading kindness. Our Giving Tree encourages visitors to make a meaningful difference by donating a thoughtful gift to a child in need. Every donation counts and brings joy on Christmas Day.”Festive activities and new decorations not only on Giving Tree
The Giving Tree isn’t the only highlight this year. The centre has unveiled its enchanting new decorations, The Floating Forest, featuring 14 recycled trees adorned with golden baubles and over 1,115 metres of twinkling lights. Shoppers can also snap a picture at the stunning 2.5-metre wreath selfie spot with its glowing neon ‘Love Lewisham’ sign.
Throughout December, festive music will fill Central Square. Performances by The Rock Choir, Sonnet Wind Orchestra, and local schools promise to spread holiday cheer.
Wakuda market and free gift wrapping
Weekends in December will feature the Wakuda market, showcasing cultural gifts from independent African and Caribbean businesses. Shoppers can discover unique items like candles, handmade jewellery, and greeting cards.
Lewisham Shopping Centre also offers free gift wrapping for purchases over £50. Visit the Circle Collection gift-wrapping station on 20th and 21st December between 11am and 3pm for beautifully wrapped presents.
