Royston Halloween Trail 2026: free half-term fun for little monsters. Hertfordshire.

Royston's free Halloween Trail runs 17-31 October 2026, with 13 spooky characters to find, prizes to win and a new costume walkabout on 29 October.
Royston Halloween Trail 2026

Royston’s free Halloween Trail is back for October half term, running from Saturday 17th to Saturday 31st October 2026. Children aged 11 and under can hunt for 13 spooky characters hidden in town centre shop windows for the chance to win a prize, and this year there’s a brand new Halloween Walkabout too.

Organised by Royston First BID, the trail is open to children who live in Royston or the surrounding villages. It’s completely free, and it’s a great way to keep little monsters busy over the school holidays while exploring the town’s independent shops.

How the Royston Halloween Trail works

Families can download an entry form or pick one up from Kooky Nohmad, Bow Books Kids, Royston Library, Royston Town Council or Ladds.

Then it’s time to follow the trail around the town centre, spot all 13 creepy characters and answer the ghoulish questions along the way.

Completed forms can be handed in at Royston Library or emailed to info@roystonfirst.com. The deadline is 9pm on Saturday 31st October 2026, and a winner will be picked at random from all correct entries.

Good to know

  • Open to children aged 11 and under living in Royston or the surrounding villages
  • One entry per child, and a parent or guardian must enter on their behalf
  • The winner will be announced on Royston First’s Facebook and Instagram pages and contacted by phone or email

New for 2026: Royston Halloween Walkabout

On Thursday 29th October, from 11am to 2pm, families are invited to come into Royston town centre in their best Halloween costumes and meet the trail’s spooky characters in person for fun and games.

There’ll be plenty of photo opportunities for all ages, so dig out those witches’ hats, vampire capes and monster masks and bring your camera.

Paul Brown, manager of Royston First Business Improvement District, said: “Whether your little ones are budding monster hunters or simply love a good Halloween dress up, Royston’s Halloween activities offer fun, free ways to get into the spooky spirit, and enjoy our brilliant independent shops and town centre along the way. So grab your little witches and wizards, sharpen your spooky senses and have a scream in Royston this half term.”
