Bluey and transport app Citymapper have launched a new “For kids” route option, designed to make getting around town with little ones easier and more playful. The feature is available now in more than 40 cities across the UK, US and Australia where Citymapper operates.

The “For kids” option sits alongside the standard route choices in the Citymapper app and can divert journeys via routes that are friendlier to little legs. That means shorter walking times, step-free access and pram-friendly stations, which will be welcome news for anyone who has ever hauled a buggy up a flight of station stairs.

What the Bluey Citymapper collaboration includes

As well as the child-friendly routes, families can personalise their trips with custom Bluey navigation icons. Bluey video clips are also built into journey planning to help keep children entertained along the way.

Parents can find extra Bluey games and activities for the journey via Bluey.tv. Its travel page suggests games inspired by the show, such as I-Spy and Car Rainbow, plus a free downloadable Family Trip Activity Pack with colouring sheets, word searches and a maze.

To celebrate Bluey’s hometown, Citymapper is also launching in Brisbane for the first time, with special Bluey and Citymapper co-branding in the city.

How to use the Bluey “For kids” route

  1. Plan a journey in the Citymapper app as normal.
  2. Select the Bluey “For kids” option alongside the standard route choices.
  3. Follow the route using step-free and accessible options.
  4. Arrive at your destination.

Part of Play The Bluey Way

The launch is part of Play The Bluey Way, a global campaign from BBC Studios encouraging families to make more time for play, connection and fun in everyday life. The campaign includes real-world play activations and colourful murals inspired by memorable Bluey moments, with stops including Bristol, the Washington D.C. area, São Paulo and Brisbane.

Aoife Owen, VP Global Brand and Marketing, Bluey at BBC Studios, said: “Play The Bluey Way is all about showing families that opportunities to play can be found in the everyday. By giving families access to child-friendly routes and built-in Bluey content, we hope we can make family journeys a little more playful.”

David Frances, Vice President of Product at Citymapper, added: “Travelling with young children often turns even a simple trip into a major operation. We are delighted to partner with Bluey to make travel a more playful experience for families.”

The Bluey “For kids” feature is available now in the Citymapper app in participating cities.
