Kids get a Lesson in Horrible Histories on City Bus Tour

Edinburgh Bus Tours has unveiled a new commentary that kids will love on board City Sightseeing tours, dedicated to Edinburgh’s gruesome past. The new commentary, voiced by Forth One DJ and Edinburgh’s favourite pantomime villain Grant Stott will include tales of the Grassmarket hangings, Nor Loch, Burke and Hare’s dastardly deeds and Dr David Livingstone being mauled by lions.

Based on Terry Deary’s bestselling Horrible Histories children’s books, the commentary launches five weeks before the characters of Henry VIII and Queen Victoria come to Edinburgh for Horrible Histories at The King’s Theatre.

Tim Armour, General Manager at Edinburgh Bus Tours, said: “We wanted to create a tour that would make sightseeing in Edinburgh just as attractive to children as it is for their parents. We’ve enjoyed a great relationship with Horrible Histories for some years, and hopefully this new commentary from Grant Stott will add some fresh grizzliness to entice a younger audience.”

The newly recorded Horrible Histories commentary is available alongside commentaries in nine different languages. Highlights from the City Sightseeing tour include Edinburgh Castle, National Museums Scotland and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The Horrible Histories shows: Terrible Tudors and Vile Victorians will be on at King’s Theatre, Edinburgh between Tuesday 11 and Saturday 15 June 2013. These riotous retellings of popular history have captured the public consciousness, even appearing as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.

Terry Deary’s Horrible Histories celebrates 20 horrible years in 2013. His books including Terrible Tudors, Vile Victorians and Rotten Romans are a popular choice for families and kids, translated into 40 different languages, sold everywhere from China to Brazil and adapted for TV and theatres.
