Celebrate Halloween half term at WWT London Wetland Centre from 25 October to 2 November This Halloween half term delve deep into skeletons and sinews, guts and gizzards, organs and oddities at WWT London Wetland Centre’s popular Yuk! Show. In this year’s theme, ‘Bizarre Bodies,’ you’ll discover the devilish dragonfly nymph’s rocket propulsion system and the humble worm’s watery skeleton. You are guaranteed to gawp and marvel at the wondrous bodily adaptations that help animals survive in the world of wetlands.  For instance, did you know it’s rumoured that the monster from Alien is based on a dragonfly nymph, a vicious creature that haunts the deep…

With fun demonstrations and plenty of audience participation this show appeals to all ages and promises both Yuk! and Wow! factors aplenty.

And, if you ever wanted to know the size of a pixie scull or see the world’s only scorpion orchid, now is your chance.  On 25th and 26th October ONLY they present the Adventures with Monsters & Myths display, a rare selection of exhibits that have been collected by Sophie-Charlotte von Federfels, an eccentric German explorer and adventuress.

She is one of the few female members of the “The Cryptozoological Society of London“. Charlie travels the world seeking out exciting scientific and mystical artefacts to be showcased by the Society at an unspecified future date… Inevitably getting hold of such objects can involve sticky situations and she has many fascinating stories to tell from her journeys. The Loch Ness monster, Bigfoot, mermaids, flying monkeys — these are just a few of the elusive beasts that have caught the eye and captured the imaginations of people around the world for centuries.

Admission to both events is free with paid admission to the Centre, but they welcome any donations to support WWT’s work to conserve the very real wondrous wildlife that relies on wetlands to flourish.  Call 0208 409 4400 to reserve your free tickets to the Yuk! Show. wwt.org.uk/london
