Land of the Tiger at Chessington World of Adventures

Monday April 30, 2018. This Saturday, Chessington World of Adventures Resort is set to open NEW, Land of the Tiger, featuring an innovative big cat enclosure with Europe’s first overhead trails that has become home to four new endangered Amur tigers – Tsar, Kyra, Olga and Kalinka – who are thriving following their arrival from Sweden earlier in the year.

Land of the Tiger at Chessington World of Adventures

As the world’s largest tiger species roams freely with a cat’s-eye view, guests visiting Land of the Tiger at Chessington will get to observe these majestic animals in a whole new way, right above their heads. Before making a splash at Tiger Rock – the exhilarating log flume ride in the Land – and join experienced Carnivore Keepers for mesmerising tiger experiences.

With less than 500 Amur tigers left in the wild, the Surrey Resort’s Chessington Conservation Fund, to mark the opening of its new Land, has committed £20k to support endangered tiger conservation efforts – specifically to WildCats Conservation Alliance and a project to develop an effective human-tiger conflict resolution strategy in Northeast China, where the Amur tiger is commonly found.

Tim Harrison-Jones, Divisional Director of Chessington World of Adventures Resort, commented: “After 18 months of meticulous planning and preparation, we’re thrilled to be opening Land of the Tiger, which represents a multi-million pound investment, with more than half committed to our four new endangered Amur tigers.

“The ability to offer Tsar, Kyra, Olga and Kalinka access to three habitats via Europe’s first overhead trails, allowing them freedom to roam, sets what we believe to be a new standard for animal care and welfare, which we’ve developed in conjunction with both our own and other experts globally.

“While already supporting a number of local and global charities and organisations committed to finding practical solutions to prevent the extinction of many species in the wild. With the arrival of our Amur tigers, it is only right we pledge essential funds to a project that will help protect the world’s largest tiger species in its natural habitat.”

Complementing Land of the Tiger and Tiger Rock, four new tiger-themed bedrooms are being introduced to the Chessington Safari Hotel.

Tickets to Chessington World of Adventures Resort start from £29 per person, if booked online at chessington.com five days in advance, representing a discount of up to 42% compared with buying tickets on the day, with children under three years of age visiting for free.
