25 days of mindfulness: a stress-free Christmas advent for kids and parents

This Christmas, a new approach to advent is helping families slow down and connect. Tesha Matthew, a Cumbria-based ex-teacher turned entrepreneur, has created 25 Days of Mindfulness. This advent calendar isn’t filled with chocolates or toys; instead, it offers daily moments of calm and connection for children and parents alike.

Tesha, the founder of Happy Little Humans, works with primary schools and local communities to put children’s wellbeing first. Her advent activities aim to help families embrace the festive season mindfully, reducing stress and bringing joy.

Festive mindfulness tools

25 Days of Mindfulness includes practical, engaging exercises like:

  • Self-Love Santa Letters: Encourage kids to write to Santa about what they love about themselves, building confidence.
  • Hot Chocolate Breaths: An imaginative breathing exercise to create calm during the holiday buzz.
  • Jolly Jars: Fill jars with festive prompts like acts of kindness or gratitude notes for daily inspiration.

Families will also enjoy printable activities, yoga tutorials, and breathing practices. Tesha and her team of mindfulness experts ensure the activities are fun and accessible.

A global movement

Tesha’s vision goes beyond Cumbria. With 12 franchisees across the UK, Canada, Northern Ireland, and Australia, the advent calendar is reaching families worldwide. Each day offers playful, mindful moments that promote calm, confidence, and connection.

“Christmas can feel overwhelming for children and parents,” Tesha says. “We’re showing families how to find their inner calm and truly enjoy this magical time.”

Christmas is a lovely time of year, and people are generous. Sometimes a reminder to be a bit more generous to charities, where there is a reliance on Christmas season, but also be generous to ourselves with time.
