Something wickedly exciting is heading to The Watercress Line in Hampshire this Halloween, with brand new spooky experiences and family friendly thrills awaiting visitors over the October half-term.
From 29 to 31 October, the heritage railway will transform into a haunted Halloween hideaway for two separate events – a family friendly adventure by day and a spine-chilling experience for adults over 18 years, after dark.
For families looking for Halloween thrills without the fright, Halloween Witches of Watercress Woods offers an immersive adventure packed with mystery, magic and mischief.
Setting off from Alresford, families will journey by train into the mysterious Watercress Woods, where Hansel & Gretel have been trapped by witches. Passengers will need to help keep the train safe and stop the witches in their tracks!
Children are encouraged to come in fang-tastic fancy dress – the spookier, the better! There will also be plenty of tempting treats available for any mini vampires, ghosts or little monsters as Sweet Sellers will be offering Halloween goodie bags.
When darkness falls…the Halloween Horror Train arrives, a separate evening event, offering a darker Halloween experience.
Adult passengers are invited aboard a mysterious Séance Train, where a Professor of the Spirit World attempts to pierce the veil between the living and the dead. As the steam train disappears into the darkness, the lights begin to flicker, whispers fill the carriage and something appears to be pushing back from the ‘other side’.
Enjoy complimentary alcoholic punch on arrival, take plenty of photos on board and come dressed in your best Halloween costumes!

- Sit back and tuck into a delicious Halloween Afternoon Tea on 22 October – with pumpkin spiced latte and toffee apple and cinnamon cake among the delicious treats on the menu.
- Enjoy an evening of mouth-watering intrigue at a Murder Mystery Evening on 23 October – a three-course meal will be served on board before guests settle down to find out Whodunnit!
- Discover the magical Wightwick Hall 6989, which plays the role of the iconic Hogwarts Express in the highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series, on special services from 26 to 28 October.
- Raise a glass to the spooky season on 31 October aboard the Halloween Real Ale Train – enjoy specially selected ale and local cider, food is also available.
