Switch-on Date: Wednesday 19th November 2025 Ludgate Circus is illuminated during a special switch-on event.
Covent Garden
With a 55-foot tree, a bell-decked Market Building, and this year’s theme being the “Theatre of Christmas”, which transforms the area into an immersive experience inspired by nearby theatres and performances. It is no wonder that Covent Garden, the city’s most cinematic seasonal set, comes top of the list. This area, known for its festive flair, is also steps from the West End and Somerset House’s ice rink. This year’s lights switch on will take place on Wednesday, 12th November.
Regent Street & St James’s
The Angels of Regent Street soar once again, drawing people from Oxford Circus to Piccadilly to see the lights twinkle as the darker nights set in. It’s also one of the most infamous areas of London for late-night shopping and carols, including at All Souls, Langham Place. This year’s lights switch on will take place on Thursday, 6th November.
Oxford Street & Bond Street
Adorned with five thousand starry lights along Europe’s busiest shopping street, Oxford Street Christmas is set to return this year, with the first of Christmas lights switched on in Central London taking place on Monday, 3rd November.
This year’s Bond Street displays will be inspired by The Crown Jewels, not one to be missed. The light switch is taking place 10 days after Oxford Street’s on Thursday, 13th November.
Trafalgar Square
The Norwegian spruce lighting and mass carol singalong remain London’s most time-honoured Christmas moment. Tree lighting is expected Thu 4 Dec (and is traditionally done on the first Thursday in December; final confirmation issued in November).
Marylebone Village
“Merry Marylebone” turns the village into a community street party, with live music, charity raffles and local traders, ideal for families, friends, tourists, and those attending solo. The Christmas light switch on will take place this year on Wednesday, 12th November (3–8 pm).
Chelsea: King’s Road & Duke of York Square
With a whole host of family-friendly festivities, foodie stalls and Father Christmas sightings, Chelsea’s elegant glow mirrors its lifestyle appeal. The Christmas light switch-on takes place on Saturday, 15th November.
Knightsbridge
Knightsbridge truly stands out this festive season, with the flagship luxury stores such as Harrods and Harvey Nichols, whose window displays turn the streets into a destination, usually all of which are live by mid-November. A candle-lit carol concert is also held at St Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge, on the 3rd December, starting the season with community spirit and musical tradition
Belgravia
Elizabeth Street’s boutique front shops and Motcomb Street’s village vibe make for one of the prettiest light switch-ons in central London. The main event is taking place this year on Sunday, 16th November (main lighting commencing at 4:45 pm).
Leadenhall Market
Situated close to Liverpool Street, with its Dickensian architecture and choir-filled arcades, the market evokes nostalgia. With the Christmas light switch-on taking place on Thursday, 13th November, and with extra craft and vintage markets through November and December.
Carnaby (Soho)
Playful, design-led displays, with this year’s theme being around “All Is Bright”, with street performances and independent retail. Switch on Christmas lights London’s tallest Christmas tree
This year, Pan Pacific London will play host to the lights switch-on of London’s tallest Christmas tree , which will take place in Bishopsgate Plaza (2 mins from London Liverpool Street Station) on Thursday 20th November, with Dermot O’Leary, the well-known television and radio presenter, performing the switch-on. The Eastern City Christmas Tree, standing at 67 feet tall, will be lit up from 17:30 to 18:30. The “Let It Snow” themed tree will feature hundreds of glowing snowflakes that light up in sequence to form a choreographed display. The evening will also include a performance from Revelation Avenue Choir, appearances from stilt walkers, and festive treats such as mulled wine and mince pies. At various times during the evening and days following, the tree will present a light show, with the snowflake patterns dancing in time to seasonal musical favourites.
Kew Christmas lights walk to feature new illuminated bridge route
One of the South East’s biggest Christmas lights walk returns November 14 for families to soak up the festive spirit outdoors. Christmas at Kew returns to Kew
Gardens with a showcase of new installations and world premieres which will allow visitors to enjoy London’s largest UNESCO World Heritage Site in an entirely new light.
A winter favourite with visitors of all ages since 2013, Christmas at Kew has paved the way for other seasonal light trails across the country, showcasing the best of nature by night and bringing the spectacular surroundings of the gardens to life after dark. This year’s trail will incorporate a series of innovative new installations alongside seasonal staples including stunning illuminated trees, a festive funfair and the ever-popular Christmas Cathedral.
