Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2026: Free Family Science Fun in London

Free Family Fun at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2026

Families looking for an inspiring and educational day out this summer won’t want to miss the Royal Society’s Summer Science Exhibition 2026, which returns to London from 30 June to 5 July with free entry and an exciting programme of hands-on activities, talks and interactive exhibits.

Bringing together some of the UK’s leading scientists, researchers and innovators, the annual event offers visitors of all ages the chance to explore cutting-edge science through fun, engaging experiences designed to spark curiosity and inspire future scientists.

Science Comes to Life for Families

This year’s exhibition features 13 flagship exhibits from universities and research institutions across the UK, covering everything from space exploration and robotics to healthcare, wildlife and climate science.

Children can shrink down to microscopic size at the Microbe Zoo, discovering the tiny organisms that live in our bodies and the environment. Budding engineers can test their skills alongside Frank the Robot and learn how future robots could help build, recycle and manufacture everyday products.

Young space enthusiasts can explore the mysteries of the universe through exhibits including Euclid: The Dark Universe Detective and Universe Makers, where visitors can journey through galaxies, black holes and the origins of the cosmos.

Hands-On Learning Beyond the Classroom

The exhibition aims to show how science connects to everyday life. Families can discover the chemistry behind baking cakes, learn how instant coffee dissolves, investigate lightning strikes, and find out how nanoparticles are transforming healthcare.

Visitors can also explore fascinating topics such as supercomputers, cancer treatments, natural history collections and the hidden environmental impacts of fast fashion.

Many exhibits feature interactive demonstrations and activities designed specifically to engage younger visitors and encourage hands-on learning.

Meet Real Scientists

One of the highlights of the event is the opportunity to speak directly with researchers and scientists working on some of today’s biggest challenges.

Children can ask questions, take part in demonstrations and hear first-hand about careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The popular Young Researcher Zone will also showcase projects developed by school students from across the UK, giving young visitors the chance to see science in action and meet peers already carrying out their own research.

Special Events and Family Talks

Throughout the six-day exhibition, more than 60 talks, workshops, screenings and panel discussions will take place.

A special wildlife weekend will celebrate the life and work of Sir David Attenborough as he marks his 100th birthday year, featuring conservation-themed talks, panel discussions and screenings of iconic moments from his documentaries.

Families can also enjoy sessions exploring space, nature, technology, health and the science behind everyday experiences.

Free Entry for All

The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition is free to attend and suitable for visitors of all ages. While entry is free, advance booking is strongly recommended due to the popularity of the event.

Whether your child dreams of becoming an astronaut, engineer, doctor, conservationist or inventor, the exhibition offers a fantastic opportunity to discover the excitement of science through hands-on experiences and inspiring encounters with real-world researchers.
