Finding a luxury hotel that works well for the whole family can be a challenge, particularly when parents want a little space of their own while children still have somewhere that feels designed with them in mind.
The newly unveiled Family Suite at The Milestone Hotel & Residences in Kensington takes a different approach, combining a parents’ bedroom with a dedicated children’s room, while keeping the two spaces connected.
Overlooking Kensington Gardens, the 45m² suite is designed to accommodate up to two adults, two children aged three to 12 and an infant in a cot. For larger families, an additional interconnecting room can also be added, making the accommodation suitable for grandparents, older children, teenagers or a nanny.
A room designed with children in mind
Behind hand-carved arched doors, the children’s bedroom has been designed as a space for sleeping and playing.
The room features hand-painted celestial motifs by Elsie Agnew, creating a starry backdrop above bespoke wooden bunk beds. There is also a dedicated reading and play area, with a toy box and selection of games positioned beneath a circular window and window seat.
It is the sort of detail that recognises that children often need their own space when staying somewhere unfamiliar, rather than simply providing an extra bed in an adult bedroom.
There are two bathrooms within the suite, including a separate children’s bathroom. The parents’ bathroom features a freestanding rolltop bath and walk-in shower.
Family-friendly touches
The suite also includes a range of practical touches aimed at making family stays easier.
Children are welcomed with a teddy bear turndown, miniature dressing gowns and slippers, bedtime stories, and milk and cookies. Toys, books and board games are available, while bespoke children’s menus are designed to make mealtimes a little more straightforward.
For younger guests, a baby bath and monitor can be provided on request, while a play tent can also be set up in the suite. Children staying with a paying adult can also enjoy complimentary breakfast.
These details are perhaps most useful for families travelling with children who still need some of the equipment and routines they have at home.
A luxury setting for parents too
While the children’s room has plenty to keep younger guests occupied, the suite has been designed so that adults don’t have to sacrifice the feeling of a luxury hotel stay.
Pierre Frey carpets, marble dining surfaces, bespoke joinery, Murano glass chandeliers by Sogni Di Cristallo and Vaughan lighting are combined with more practical features including automated blackout curtains, a Nespresso machine and minibar.
The suite’s fifth-floor position provides views across Kensington Palace and Gardens, while a window-side banquette offers a space for breakfast, in-room dining or simply sitting together and looking out over the gardens.
For parents, having a separate bedroom means there is also the possibility of enjoying some quiet time once the children are settled for the night – something that can be particularly welcome on a family city break.
Family experiences in London
The Family Suite is part of The Milestone Hotel’s wider approach to family stays, with activities including family picnics in Kensington Gardens, traditional afternoon tea, cupcake decorating, mini bake-offs and mocktail-making.
Its location also puts families within easy reach of Kensington Palace, museums, parks and other London attractions, making it a practical base for exploring the city.
The two-bedroom Family Suite at The Milestone Hotel & Residences sleeps up to two adults, two children aged three to 12 and one infant aged up to two years in a cot. An additional interconnecting room can be added for larger family groups.
