Innovative Approach to Children’s Mental Health: Sleep Talk for Emotional Resilience
Quote from Penny McCarthy on November 7, 2024, 3:34 pmNew Sleep-Talk Therapy for Children’s Anxiety and Emotional Health
Anisa, a former deputy headteacher from Ilkley, West Yorkshire, has embraced a new technique called the Goulding Method, a psychological practice that addresses children’s anxieties through “sleep talking.” This unique approach uses a parent’s voice during a child’s sleep cycle to reshape negative beliefs at the subconscious level, boosting confidence and emotional well-being. Having spent eight years coaching families on anxiety and emotional health, Anisa now offers this service as part of her broader mission to support whole-family mental health.
Transforming Negative Beliefs
The Goulding Method, established in Australia nearly 50 years ago, has recently gained traction in the UK. Anisa, one of only 17 accredited practitioners in the UK, says it is a powerful way to “reset neural pathways” by speaking to children during a specific sleep stage, removing ingrained beliefs like “not being good enough” or “not feeling worthy.” The method is lauded for its impact, with parents calling the technique “miraculous” for easing anxiety and behavioural issues.
Anisa said: “Through speaking to a child at a certain point in their sleep cycle we can tap into their subconscious and use the power of neuroplasticity to reset neural pathways - in basic talk that means we can help children and young people get rid of unhelpful negative beliefs around not being good enough, not being loved, not feeling worthy, and instead empower them by resetting these beliefs. It’s about tapping into the subconscious at a level that helps get rid of the negative filters which over time children have accumulated from different life experiences”.
“The Goulding Method was established nearly 50 years ago by a mum who needed to support her own child - and for nearly 50 years she’s been making an impact with her work in Australia and now on a Global level - however, this is a relatively new Method to the UK. There are only 17 of us in the UK accredited to practise this, and I’m so excited to be one of them”.
Empowering Families to Support Mental Health
Anisa’s approach is driven by a passion for empowering parents to support their children through challenges like anxiety, stress, and emotional overload. Her work has been especially helpful for neurodivergent families, helping them find positive rhythms and routines. Through one-on-one sessions, group coaching, and corporate workshops, she brings her expertise to a broad range of settings, creating a positive impact for parents, children, and communities.
