World premieres inspire young imaginations

The headline production, Toto, follows a determined young donkey who dreams of becoming an astronaut. This uplifting new musical, based on Ximo Abadia’s book, runs from 10 October until 1 November and delights children aged three to eight.

Young audiences can also discover Rebel, Rebel, which celebrates courage, equality and female voices. Willow meets Suffragette Emily Davison in a powerful adventure that encourages children to stand up for their beliefs.

Meanwhile, Colours, Colours Everywhere transforms Julia Donaldson and Sharon King-Chai’s colourful story into an imaginative stage production. Puppetry, music and British Sign Language create a joyful experience for children aged three to eight.

Family favourites return for winter

The festive season promises even more magical entertainment. Peter Pan flies into Neverland with live music, beatboxing and original songs for families. Younger children can also enjoy Antarctica, where puppets, clowning and snowy adventures introduce remarkable wildlife.

Babies and toddlers can explore the immersive sensory experience Blub, while older children can laugh along with The Three Little Pigs, journey beneath the waves in At Sea, or experience A Class of Your Own, which explores confidence and belonging through physical theatre.

Literature lovers will also enjoy You’ll See, which introduces young audiences to James Joyce’s Ulysses through inventive storytelling.

Creative activities for every family

Polka Theatre continues to inspire creativity beyond the stage. Families can join puppet-making workshops, musical theatre sessions, seasonal crafts, sensory adventures and dance classes throughout the year. The venue also welcomes back its popular Big Dreams Early Years Theatre Festival, featuring interactive performances and special appearances, including MC Grammar and Nick Sharratt’s Once Upon a Drawalong.

Artistic Director Helen Matravers says the programme reflects children’s real experiences while delivering unforgettable adventures. Every production encourages imagination, confidence and conversation.
