Halloween at Kew is an after-dark illuminated trail through Kew Gardens (TW9), created by the same team who deliver the famed Christmas at Kew event.
Expect glowing installations, spooky sculptures (think giant spiders, haunted fairground arches, Frankenstein’s lab), and atmospheric lighting marrying horticulture with Halloween thrills.
Dates & session times
- The event runs from Friday 17 October through Sunday 2 November 2025.Two time-regimes depending on date:
- 17 Oct–25 Oct: entry from ~6pm (sessions approx 6pm–10pm)
- 26 Oct–2 Nov: an earlier slot begins at ~4pm (sessions 4pm–10pm)
- The trail is about 1.5 km long, and most visitors will take 1–1.5 hours to complete it.
Who it’s suitable for
- The event is marketed as suitable for all ages.
- Importantly for younger children/toddlers: there are three “scare-level” session types:
- Daylight (earlier entry, less dark) — best for younger children and early bedtimes. Twilight — medium level
- Moonlight — highest impact visuals (more immersive)
- If you have a toddler on a schedule: aim for the earlier slot (Daylight) so it’s not too late or scary for them.
Tickets & pricing
- Ticketing is separate from standard Kew Gardens daytime admission; you cannot just turn up on a day-entry ticket and access Halloween at Kew.
Peak pricing:
- ADULT £22.00
- FAMILY OF 4 (2 Adults + 2 Children 4-15) – £72
- CHILD (4-15)- £16.00
- CHILD (UNDER 4) Free
- Parking (if required) must be pre-booked at the same time as tickets. Look around on Google Maps as there is often pay and display parking around.
How to get there & enter
- Entry gates for Halloween at Kew: Elizabeth Gate (TW9 3AE) and Brentford Gate (TW9 3AF).
- Transport:
- Tube: Kew Gardens station (District Line / London Overground) ~15-min walk to Elizabeth Gate. Train: Kew Bridge station (800m from Elizabeth Gate)
- Car/parking: Limited. If driving, pre-book a parking space (Ferry Lane Car Park at Brentford Gate) £12 extra.
- Accessibility: The route is paved but does include some gradients and natural terrain; buggy-friendly but expect some caution.
What to bring & practical tips
- Clothing: As much of the trail is outdoors, dress for the weather. Waterproof layers and sturdy shoes recommended — some areas may be damp or sloped.
- Torch/Phone light: Some trail sections are more dimly lit. Great lighting effects, but little people may appreciate a phone torch.
- Stroller/buggy: Fine for many parts, but if heavy rain earlier, some paths may be slippy. If using a stroller and have a toddler, aim for early session.
- Snacks/Food: There will be seasonal food & drink stalls (cashless payment only) on-site — eg hot chocolates, toasted marshmallows, hot toddies (for adults) etc.
- Photographs: There are many photo opportunities (giant pumpkins, illuminated trees). If you would rather not appear in Kew’s promotional material, speak to a staff member.
- Dogs/pets: Not permitted (assistance dogs only).
Tips for families with toddlers
- Arrive early: The daylight session (before ~6pm) is the gentlest and best suited for little ones who may not want to stay out late.
- Plan for toilet breaks: Accessible toilets are located near both entry gates and along the trail.
- Pick a “quiet moment”: Some parts of the trail may have actors or surprises — pre-warn your toddler that “there might be people dressed up” so they’re not startled.
- Exit strategy: If your child gets tired, you can exit at the nearest gate rather than completing full loop; keep the ticket information handy.
- Consider transport home in advance: After dark and half-term week, public transport may be busier — plan your return route before you go.
- Costumes: Many families dress up. A small costume can make it more magical — but nothing elaborate that restricts movement or covers face (for toddlers).
Halloween at Kew offers a beautifully designed, family-friendly alternative to traditional trick-or-treating: atmospheric, imaginative and suitable for toddlers when booked for an early slot. With its illuminated garden, safe routes and flexible pace, it’s an excellent option for parents looking to share a special half-term outing with younger children. Book early, prep for the weather, and enjoy a little bit of spooky enchantment among the plants this autumn.
