The Tower of London is turning spooky for October half term, with costumed ghosts from the fortress’s past roaming the grounds from Saturday 24th October to Sunday 1st November 2026. Halloween at the Tower of London runs daily from 10.30am to 4pm and is included in standard admission, so there is no separate event ticket to buy.
Historic Royal Palaces describes the event as designed to delight rather than fright, making it a good pick for families with younger children who want a taste of Halloween without anything too scary.
Meet the ghosts of the Tower of London this Halloween
Costumed actors in theatrical outfits and ghoulish make-up will bring some of the Tower’s most notorious stories to life, from the tragic fate of Anne Boleyn to the imprisonment of Guy Fawkes. Families can look out for a poet, a pirate, a queen, an astronomer and even a bear, with clues hidden in windows and the odd distant roar to listen for.
Spooky spots to discover around the fortress include the Haunted Forge, the Enchanted Wishing Well and the Raven’s Observatory. The wandering spirits all gather at the Haunted Forge for a special get-together three times a day, at 11.15am, 12.45pm and 2.45pm.
Some areas use atmospheric sound effects, so children who feel a little nervous can enjoy the ghosts from a comfortable distance. Young ghost hunters are asked to stay with their grown-ups throughout the visit. If it rains, some of the ghosts may take shelter for a while before reappearing.
Important: no fancy dress for visitors
Parents should note that the ghosts are the only ones allowed to dress up. The Tower has asked visitors not to wear costumes to this event, and anyone arriving in costume will be refused entry. Worth checking before you leave the house with an excited little witch or skeleton.
What else is included
As well as the Halloween fun, a standard ticket covers the Tower’s year-round highlights. Families can join a guided Yeoman Warder tour, see the dazzling Crown Jewels and meet the famous ravens.
For older children who want something scarier, the Tower also runs after-hours Ghost Tours led by a Yeoman Warder. These need a separate ticket and are recommended for ages 12 and over.
