Join us at Kew Bridge on the 22nd and 23rd of September for a packed weekend of 999 fun! Our 999 Vintage weekend will combine family-friendly activities with a stunning display of vintage fire engines, police cars and ambulances.
On the Saturday, police dog Chase from Paw Patrol will be visiting the Museum. Younger visitors can meet him up close and take a photo as a special memento of the day. Thomas Wicksteed, our steam train, will also be on hand, with unlimited train rides all weekend. With themed arts and crafts activities, water play in our Splash Zone and hands-on interactives in our Waterworks Gallery, it all adds up to a fabulous family day out.
On Sunday, the focus will be on our display of vintage emergency services vehicles, including our own 1860s Shand Mason steam-powered fire engine and a Leyland TLM2a fire engine, made in 1938 and used during the Second World War to protect London from fire. During the day, regular demonstrations will show the vehicles in action.
Visitors who are interested in our engines will be pleased to know that, across the weekend, two of our rotative engines, the Easton and Amos and the Dancers End Engine, will be running, and, on the Sunday, one of our Cornish beam engines, The Bull, will also be in operation.
All the fun is included in the standard entry price of the Museum. Visitors can book on our website, www.waterandsteam.org.uk, for a 10% discount.
About the London Museum of Water & Steam
Based in the historic buildings of the former Kew Bridge Waterworks, the London Museum of Water & Steam tells the story of London’s water supply, the site, its people and the amazing pumping engines that helped to make London the great city it is today.
As well as housing the world’s largest collection of stationary steam pumping engines, the Museum is also home to a narrow-gauge steam locomotive and a Waterworks Gallery that traces the development of London’s clean water supply. The Museum offers a fun and educational day out for families and steam enthusiasts alike.
