A new platform focused on female football nutrition is making waves, and top professional players are backing it. The Female Football Nutrition Network (FFNN) began sharing nutritional advice through their Instagram page @femalefootballnutrition and it quickly gained momentum.

Fueling the future of female football

FFNN, co-founded by Aimee Ellen O’Keeffe, aims to provide education on nutrition for women and girls in football. Aimee brings her experience as the former Performance Nutritionist for Manchester United Women’s Team to help females understand how to fuel their bodies properly for the game they love.

“We’re thrilled to have players like Kirsty Hanson, Martha Harris, and Millie Turner supporting our work,” Aimee explained. “The response has been incredible, and it’s a testament to how needed this education is.”

Pro players back the female football platform

Top footballers are showing their support for this nutrition education platform. Kirsty Hanson, who plays for Aston Villa Women and the Scotland International team, said, “Aimee helped me perform my best by giving me practical nutrition tips and recipes. I know this platform will benefit many others.”

Similarly, Martha Harris, who currently plays for Birmingham City and is a former England international, shared, “Aimee’s guidance on nutrition improved my performance in matches and training. It’s great that more players can now benefit from her expertise through the FFNN.”

Millie Turner, Manchester United Women defender and England Lioness, added, “Aimee helped me maintain a steady weight and fuel my performance. Now I feel more confident in what I need to perform at my best.”

Expert-led education

The FFNN platform has been developed by leading nutrition experts. Alongside Aimee, Dr. James Morehen, the England Men’s Performance Nutritionist at the Rugby Football Union, and Evan Bailey, Lead Academy Nutritionist at Birmingham City FC, bring their expertise to the platform. Together, they offer practical, science-backed nutrition advice that is tailored to female footballers.

Why nutrition matters in football

Nutrition plays a vital role in a player’s ability to perform well, recover quickly, and reduce injury risk. FFNN offers tools to help players with pre-match preparation, post-game recovery, and day-to-day fuelling strategies. Members will also have access to webinars, guest speakers, 1-1 consultations, and a community of like-minded athletes.
