I’ve been using the Infantino Soothing Light Projector since my little one arrived, and overall I’m pretty pleased with it. As a first-time mum, I was hopeful it would help with those restless evenings — here’s how it’s been for us:

What I like

  • Calming light effect
The soft, slowly shifting colours are gentle and non-disturbing. It doesn’t feel harsh on little eyes. Often I turn it on in the evening when my baby is getting fussy, and it seems to help distract and soothe her.

  • Built-in lullabies & sounds
I love that it has a selection of gentle sounds. Sometimes I pair the light with a lullaby mode, and it gives me a few extra minutes to finish settling things (grab a glass of water, put the cushion down, that sort of thing).

  • Compact & portable
It’s light enough to move between rooms. Some evenings we lounge in the living room longer, and having the projector go with us is a bonus. It doesn’t take up much space in the nursery either.

  • Simple controls
The buttons are intuitive. I didn’t want something overly complicated when I’m half asleep — the control panel is easy to understand and use in the dark.

    What I liked less

  • Light brightness
Even on its lowest setting, for some babies (mine included) it’s on the edge of being a bit bright. I sometimes drape a light muslin over it to soften the output further.

  • Battery / power
It runs on power (plug), so you need to have it close to an outlet. A cordless version or longer cable would be a nice upgrade — I’ve had to reposition furniture for convenience.

  • Sound volume / quality
The built-in lullabies are okay, but they don’t get extremely soft. If you’re trying to keep the overall noise level down, it can be just a little too prominent. The sound quality is fine for short use, though.

  • No “auto off after a set time”
I wish there was a timer so it could turn itself off after, say, 15 or 30 minutes. Right now I have to remember to go and switch it off (sometimes the baby is already asleep, though I try to avoid glaring light all night).

I think it’s a very helpful tool — not a miracle worker, but it does seem to contribute to smoother evenings. With a few tweaks (dimness adjustment, timer), it would be near perfect. For now, it’s one of the helpful little things in my “mum toolkit.” Would I buy it again? Yes — and I’d probably pair it with a very soft shade or diffuser to tame the brightness.
