Hatch a family trip around the UK’s best Easter egg hunts
For parents looking for activities to occupy their young children during the Easter break, GoEuro (www.goeuro.co.uk), the website that allows travellers to compare and combine air, rail and coach transport across Europe, has compiled a list of some of the most picturesque places in the UK hosting Easter egg hunts.
1. Burghley House – Lincolnshire
Burghley House, set in Stamford, Lincolnshire, is one of England’s most renowned Elizabethan houses. It was built by the Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I in the sixteenth century. This impressive residence has more than 80 rooms and halls. In the gardens, Burghley boasts an impressive deer park which will host a treasure hunt on Sunday 20th April, with an Easter egg prize. Families will also be able to test their Easter knowledge for the chance to win a family Season Card.
2. Kew Gardens – London
On Sunday 20th April, Kew Gardens will host a free Easter egg hunt and face painting alongside entry to the gardens. Located just half an hour from central London, Kew Gardens is a world famous botanic garden, with stunning landscapes and iconic glasshouses. Spring is a great time to visit Kew Gardens as there are over five million bulbs in bloom, including crocuses, daffodils and tulips. This is the perfect place to learn more about nature while having fun with the kids.
3. Falkland Palace – Fife
Falkland Palace is the only royal palace in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. It is set at the foot of the Lomond Hills near Fife and is a majestic Renaissance building. This building was one of the residencies of the Stuart monarchs for 200 years. Here, you can also see Britain’s oldest tennis courts. The Cadbury Easter Egg trail takes place here from Saturday 19th – Monday 21st April, costing just £1 to participate.
4. Eden Project – Cornwall
From Saturday 5th April – Monday 21st April, the Eden Project will host a chocolate festival. This festival includes a history of chocolate exhibition, chocolate bar making workshops and storytelling sessions. Admission to the chocolate festival is free, except for a 50p charge for the chocolate bar workshop. The Eden project, located just outside the town of St Blazey in Cornwall, is a great place to visit unique gardens and plants, but also a charity and social enterprise.
5. Claremont Landscape Garden – Surrey
Claremont Landscape Garden is located in the heart of Surrey. It dates back to the eighteenth century and was once a Duke’s retreat. Many influential gardeners have left their mark on the place over the years. There are many unexpected features within the gardens, such as a serpentine lake, a grotto and the Belvedere Tower. This is a great location to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the grind of everyday life. The Cadbury Easter Egg trail takes place here on Friday 18th April and Saturday 19th April and entry to the trail costs £2.50.
