Sage Gateshead takes families on a quest to save the music
Sage Gateshead needs the public’s help to save the music in a new immersive family event – Let the Beat Go On! This summer Sage Gateshead will be seen and experienced as never before in a brand-new interactive eventfor all of the family to enjoy. Running from 27 July – 26 August 2017, Let the Beat Go On! is Sage Gateshead’s new summer quest. Audiences will need to keep their wits about them if they are to beat ‘The Silencer’ – a mischievous being that has infiltrated the building and is trying to stop the music.
During the 90-minute event families will follow a hidden trail around Sage Gateshead’s undiscovered areas. Collecting clues and solving mysteries the participants will release trapped sounds, bringing back the music for an unforgettable, and noisy, finale in celebration of sound.
Tamsin Austin, Director of Performance Programme at Sage Gateshead, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching Let the Beat Go On! This interactive and fun, promenade event for families will give access to some of the Sage Gateshead’s hidden nooks and crannies and usually unseen backstage areas, throughout the summer holidays. The performance is part of our on-going work to engage young people in music, and is set to be an amazing family day out to remember.”
Let the Beat Go On! is being created by award-winning theatre company, Unfolding Theatre, visual artist, Bethan Maddocks and co-director, Ruth Johnson. Previous family quests include Frost of Forgetfulness (Museum Event of The Year 2017, The Journal Culture Awards Finalist.)
Annie Rigby Artistic Director and Founder of Unfolding Theatre comments: “Our aim is to create a mission-based experience, which surprises and delights a new young audience and enables existing audiences to see Sage Gateshead in a new light. We’re working with a team of fantastic artists to bring the story to life and are looking forward to giving families an amazing time this summer holiday.”
Suitable for all ages, Let the Beat Go On! will run four times a day, three days a week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tickets are £6 per child and adults go free. For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.SageGateshead.com.
