This August, St James’s Market welcomes visitors to experience the thrill of live world-class sports with free outdoor screenings of the Paralympics in the heart of London.
Head to St James’s Market, between buzzy Haymarket and Regent Street, to watch the sporting action unfold on the big screen from the comfort of cosy deck chairs and be inspired by the incredible athletes of the Paralympics.
The Paralympics will be screened from 28th August to 8th September, and with no need to book it couldn’t be easier to soak up the sporting atmosphere.
As part of the experience, the National Paralympic Heritage Trust, an organisation which exists to inspire future generations of athletes and fans by sharing our incredible Paralympic heritage, is holding a special exhibition at St James’s Market Pavilion, which is open from now until 13th of September. ‘The Story of the Games’ features unique images and artefacts which celebrate some of the most exciting moments in the history of the Paralympic Movement, from its birth in 1948, to London 2012 and this summer’s Paris games.
Further events will also be taking place in August for all the family to enjoy for free, including:
- Tuesday 13th August, 11:30am: ‘Meet the Paralympian: Helene Rayford’, followed by a virtual tour of the Global Virtual Museum led by CEO Vicky Hope-Walker.
- Thursday 15th August: Family Fun Day, 11am – 3pm: This day will be filled with arts & crafts for all the family. There will be activities including a taster of the Paralympic sport Boccia and the Trust’s pop-up museum will be on site with a collection of medals, torches and Paralympic mascots for visitors to see up close.
In addition to the screenings, visitors can indulge in an array of world cuisines on offer at St James’s Market, with indulgent and authentic Indonesian dishes from Toba, tasty pastries from Ole & Steen and alfresco dining at ‘O Ver or Fowl, the perfect spot for escaping the crowds.
