Karen Murphy’s book, The Story of Codey Crowe, brings to life the experiences of an autistic, non-verbal seven-year-old in a way that is both enlightening and uplifting. Inspired by her grandson, Codey, Karen shares a vibrant and joyful story that helps children and adults better understand autism.
Codey Crowe, a story filled with adventure and love
Codey Crowe is an adventurous, happy child who does not let autism hold him back. With his natural curiosity and boundless energy, he explores the world in his own unique way. Karen, a former learning mentor for children with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, captures the essence of his personality with warmth and humour.
The book has received glowing five-star reviews for its meaningful message and engaging storytelling. Parents, teachers, and childcare professionals have praised its ability to foster understanding and acceptance of autism. Many educators advocate for The Story of Codey Crowe to be included in school libraries to help children develop empathy for their neurodiverse peers.
A personal mission to raise awareness
Karen Murphy explains:
“There is not enough support for these children and their families. I wanted to show the lighter side of raising an autistic child. Kids need to understand that some children see the world differently. They may struggle with waiting their turn, throw their food, or make funny noises when happy. This book helps explain those differences in a way children can relate to.”
